New characters for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?
What other classic literary characters could you see joining the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? I have been watching the movie and have decided to write a fan fiction, but I need to add at least two new members for my story to work. They have to be from the late 1800s and would have to be an asset to the League. I also need for one of these new members to be a woman. Any help at all would be appreciated.
First decent answer gets 10 points.
That's actually quite difficult.
Sherlock Holmes is too much of an individualist to join, and even if he did, he'd insist on Watson coming with him. John Melmoth (AKA Melmoth the Wanderer) is a creation of the horror writer Charles Maturin who, although a fascinating character, probably has too much in common with Dorian Grey to be usable. Robur the Conqueror, the master of the airship Clipper of the Clouds (by Jules Verne) is similarly a bit too like Captain Nemo. Tarzan is an interesting possibility, although Edgar Rice Burroughs first novel about him doesn't come out until 1912.
The Time Traveller from H G Wells' 'The Time Machine' is one possibility. He's a brilliant mechanical and electrical scientist, and seems to have enough strength and survival skills to cope when wandering around in the future and dealing with the Morlocks. Personally, I think he's a bit two-dimensional, and his field of expertise is limited, although I suppose it does open up the possibility of a plot either involving time travel, stopping the bad guys mastering it, or fixing some temporal anomaly.
Best of luck finding others!
